About Us

A working artist studio
in the heart of Launceston’s arts precinct

Russell Street Studios is a privately owned studio space and run by studio manager Sonja Brough. The building is steeped in history, having been used as a pottery studio since the 1980’s. We are continuing on the tradition of providing a working artist studio in the heart of Launceston’s art precinct, with a specialisation in ceramics.

The studio was originally known as Studio 5 before becoming The Tin Shed Pottery. In 2021 the studio was sold and renamed it Russell Street Studios, bringing a new vision to the space, with more focus on teaching and supporting artists to have a sustainable practice.

Sonja was previously the head of ceramics at the University of Tasmania and has a strong passion for teaching people the real stuff in her ceramics classes

Russell Street Studios aim to create a space that is welcoming, vibrant and diverse providing the public a chance to witness artists in the creative process and an opportunity to purchase directly from the artist.
